John Blake Memorial
John Blake, 72, passed away on July 8, 2018, in Coral Gables, Florida. John was born in Hollywood, California. He is predeceased by his son, Christopher Blake, and is survived by his loving wife, Evamarie V. Blake; her children, Alexander Blake, Helenemarie Blake and Christopher Leger; his sisters, Susan Manning and family and Julianne Blake; by his granddaughter, Emma Leger; and by his brother-in-law Ingo Viehweg and family.
A friend to all, a mentor and inspiration to many, John had an unwavering zest for life, living each day to the fullest. Having grown up in Shanghai, Havana and Bermuda, travel was a part of his life from the start. John graduated from the prestigious Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and soon joined the management training program at AIG, continuing the legacy of his father, Hugh Blake. He went on to found and successfully run Hemispheric Reinsurance Group for the last 20 years of his career. Over his nearly 50 years in the insurance industry John became known as a legend in his field, his hallmarks being the core values of ethics and integrity.
John and his beloved wife, Evamarie, lived in many countries throughout the world before settling in Miami in 1984. He traveled the world with unique enthusiasm, finding the best every city had to offer. John was an accomplished golfer and marksman. He approached all of his interests with fervent curiosity and passion.
Family mattered most to John. He was a wonderful and loving husband to Evamarie for 50 years and a dedicated father to Helenemarie, Alexander, Chris, and Christopher, an exemplary son to Kay, faithful brother to Susie and Julie and a steadfast brother to Ingo. He had a special spot in his heart for Emma. He was a faithful friend who would do anything for those he loved. John has truly left the world a better place, infusing it with a humor, joy and passion that those who knew him will always carry with them.
